The Club's monthly meetings are a key part of the PROBUS experience. They allow the Management Committee to provide updates, and they enable all members to catch up with friends (old and new), discuss upcoming events and activities and to generally participate in the ongoing development of the club. Our monthly meetings are usually held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to noon and there is a $2.00 charge for attending the meeting which helps cover the meeting expenses. Coffee will be served and members are encouraged to bring their own mugs.
Lakeside meetings always feature a guest speaker and this month will be no exception as we welcome philosopher, educator, public speaker and author, Dr. Christopher DiCarlo
As an author Dr. DiCarlo has written many scholarly papers and several books including his best-seller: ‘How to Become a Really Good Pain in the Ass’. As a speaker. he has presented at numerous national and international conferences and in fact he has presented to us - and inspired us - three times before. This time however, he has a new and very critical subject: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity.
He will first cover the basics of AI in reference to key terms, concepts, and issues and then he will take a look at some of the promising benefits such as medical miracles and increases in efficiency and automation, etc. He will also stress how important it is to realize that there are ways in which AI could present risks and generate harm; either intentionally or unintentionally.
This meeting will be in Chestnut Hill Recreation Centre and you should plan to arrive in plenty of time as parking is often a challenge at the Complex.
We have booked some tables at Perkins restaurant for anybody who wants to join us for a luncheon afterwards (at your expense).
