Hogmanay is the Scots' word for the last day of the year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner - as such it might involve drinking Scotch, eating haggis and bagpipes!.
It is normally followed by further celebration on the morning of New Year's Day with gift-giving and visiting the homes of friends and neighbours - with special attention given to the first-foot; the first guest of the new year who brings a lump of coal (wonder if anybody can still buy coal) and other gifts in order to bring good fortune to the household.
So please join us at 5:30 p.m. for our monthly cocktail "hour", which this month will be a Scotch and haggis get together (wine, beer and any other goodies are also acceptable) on New Year's Eve and then at 7:00 p.m.(which happens to be midnight in Scotland) we will listen to some pipers playing Auld Lang Syne.
Feel free to wear your kilt and sporran!
PS Here is a recipe for Haggis for the brave-hearts amongst you. You will need some suet, lamb's pluck and ox bung!!
