The Club's monthly meetings are a key part of the PROBUS experience. They allow the Management Committee to provide updates, and they enable all members to catch up with friends (old and new), discuss upcoming events and activities and to generally participate in the ongoing development of the club. Our monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to noon and there is a $2.00 charge for attending the meeting which helps cover the meeting expenses. Coffee will be served and members are encouraged to bring their own mugs.
Lakeside meetings always feature a guest speaker and this month will be no exception as we welcome Canadian writer, journalist, professor and broadcaster - Ted Barris
Ted a renowned orator and has made many presentations to PROBUS and other service clubs to great acclaim. In 2022, Ted was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II's 'Platinum Jubilee Award' and his appointment as a 'Member of the Order of Canada'. He has published 20 non-fiction books, half of them wartime histories focusing on Canada’s military heritage.
Ted will talk to us about his latest book. ‘The Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory’ which focuses on Canada’s longest continuous military engagement of WWII. The story of Canada’s ability to challenge the U-boats and drive them to defeat, is a Canadian wartime saga for the ages.
This meeting will be in Chestnut Hill Recreation Centre and you should plan to arrive in plenty of time as parking is often a challenge at the Complex.
It will also be a a ‘Make a new Friend’ event in which you will be encouraged to accept a random table assignment when you sign in. Then there will be some ice-breaker activities designed to help you to get to know your new tablemates.
We have booked some tables at Perkins restaurant for anybody who wants to join us for a luncheon afterwards (at your expense).
